Okay........here's my problem. I have a 48 Johnson (1995 or 1996). I changed the leg oil yesterday and noticed today that when I was putting it away for the winter, that I now have a leak coming out of the prop seal. It wasn't leaking before I changed the oil and I didn't touch the prop at all. What caused this, and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Re: leg oil leak

deBoat....Did you use a hand pump to fill the lower unit back up? That seal may have been on the vurge of going and the pressure from pumping new, thick gear oil in, and maybe a little overfilling, pushed it over the edge. Good Luck.

Re: leg oil leak

I didn't use a hand pump, just filled it using the nozzle from the oil bottle. If the seal is shot.........how much work is it to replace and will it be okay left over the winter with it leaking?
