Was wondering if it makes a diffrence in idle quality whether you use the conventional plug or the gapless plug like the QL16v on my 91 evinrude 225. Also would like to know if any special tools are needed to overhaul the carbs?

el....not quite sure about those plugs, but I would reccommend using the specified Champions, they are rated by temperature and the factory reccommends the correct temperature plug for each motor. As for your second question, you don't need any specialty tools for rebuilding carbs, standard mechanics tools will do, ie. wrenches, screwdrivers etc... Good Luck.

yes there is one very important tool an
OMC J/E Service Manual & Parts Catalog .
for you the part # is 507951 and 434225.
-
the other would be a good inch pound torque wrench starting at 0 to 150.
the fuel bowls have a certain sequence like the cylinder heads.
-
make sure you make a diagram in relation to which carb went where, along with the # & location of the idle/intermediate jets.
-
good luck

There's also a special tool for removing the orfices. You may get 'um out with a small screwdriver or you may fix 'um where they never come out. If you try to remove 'um with a screwdriver and they don't want to come out, leave 'um. Just squirt carb cleaner in 'um and blow 'um out with compressed air.

c/6
Hooty
