What is the overall opinion of using
Wal*Mart brand Super Tech oil. (2 cycle engine oil)
It is extremely affordable- (approx. $7.00 / gallon)

I have used nothing but SuperTech in my water cooled 2 strokes for years, Sal.

Other oils claim to make less smoke and carbon, but I have never had the least problem.

Good luck. :)

Re: Super Tech Oil

I understand that many people are using this oil with decent results, however ,just because it meets the TC-W formulation doesnt mean that it is as good as the higher priced oils! And on the other side, just because an oil costs more doesnt mean that it is a good quality oil! The TC-W rating only means that an oil has met a MINIMUM REQUIREMENT! This topic has been hashed to death here on the forums! I personally use a synthetic that isnt TC-W rated, (Amsoil) To me, the performance is worth the cost! Smoother running, less carbon, less sparkplug replacement! Do a search and you will come up with lots of posabilities!!

Its hard to say how this post will do , given there have been some Heated discusions on the topic!! I think that oil preferences should be concidered a Reigion!! Both Car and 2 cycle!

LubeDude

Do as JB suggest go and get it at wal mart I to use it and don't have any problems.
BTW don't even look at this post again because there will be a long discussion about oils and Like me 98 percent of them go to wal mart because of the cost and instant availability

LubeDude.....What does the TC-W3 stand for in the oil rating? I know it is a minimum requirement but what does "TC-W3" actually mean? Also, I usually don't use Wal-Mart oil, usually Lubrimatic or Quicksilver, but recently have heard alot about the Ficht oil being a better lubricant and burning alot cleaner. Is this true or is it the same as all other oils, like Lubrimatic or even Wal-Mart? Thanks, Mike.

Re: Super Tech Oil

I know this is a very controversial subject and has been covered many times before, but even though alot of guys say that one particular oil is fine for the money such as Wal-Mart or something else, and that Ficht Ram oil is better but more expensive, is there actually a best oil? I mean I know there are personal preferences and variables due to pricing, but in actuality, with price not being a concern, MECHANICALLY, what is the best oil? Is the J/E XD-25 any better, MECHANICALLY speaking than any other such as Wal-Mart? Or is the Ficht oil the best out there? I don't care if it costed $2 a gallon or $100 a gallon, I just want to know mechanically speaking what is the best, hands down. For instance I have a boat with a 70hp on it, it holds 18 gallons, if I buy the Ficht oil it's no big deal because the engine doesn't use that much oil. But I also have a boat with twin 200's that absolutely drinks gas and oil and if there is no doubt about the performance I would spend the money on the Ficht oil for it, but if I'm really not gonna see that much difference I'll buy the XD-25 or Lubrimatic or something. I guess I'm really just looking for a straight answer, although I'm not sure one exists on this topic. Thanks alot, Mike.

Re: Super Tech Oil

isnt there only a few companys that acually refine oil ?? all this oil on the market cant all be diffrent it all comes from the same places. just because oil is cheap in price does not mean it is not as good as the high dollar stuff. discount auto oil you really think discount makes oil ??? no its made by castrol.and all walmart oils are made by pennsoil. just because its store brand does not mean its less quality.9 times out of 10 its a namebrand with a store lable on it the hard part is trying to figuer out who made it.

You answered your own question here.
Make a common sense choice and stick with it.

Re: Super Tech Oil

wayne....it's not realy the actual oil that is involved, but the additives that each particular company puts in them. There is a post that is still up on the main page about oils, namely the Ficht, that has pretty much answered my question. I think I'll spend the money and start using only XD-25 or Ficht oil.

Wayne, you also answered the question at hand....If you are smart, you will stick with the manufacturer's (Outboard) oil, and quit wondering....
BTW, it may come out of the same pipe (mineral oil only) but the manufacturer is the one that decides what additives go in to meet their specs-this does not include XD-25 as it is semi-synthetic, and far superior to straight mineral oils such as Super Tech.
;)

Re: Super Tech Oil

It's really true about the additive packages being important. It's also the most expensive part. The basestock on dino oil costs less than the bottle it comes in.

On a semi synthetic, you really don't know how much is synthetic, and how much is dino oil. Most of them do not say what type of "synthetic" basestock they are using. Also, none of the manufacturers make their own oil, and typically won't tell you who does. I know who makes mine though. And it's 100% synthetic.
