I have 70hp 1974 Johnson. The local shops i have called have all given me different recomendations on what the best spark plug is for my motor. The last time this happened they gave me a set of plugs that killed the power pack on my 6 hp. What plugs are you running (if you have this year/hp) and what is your main use. I use my boat for fishing/trolling. Any info is appreciated. hope all had a wonderful (wild) turkey day.

Got a model number for that motor? Don't see a 74' 70 HP on that chart.

The Clymer manual recommended plug for the 1974 70HP Johnson is a CHAMPION UL77V.

If your J/E Dealer can't supply them, you can get the plugs here: Plugs

On todays fuel the Champion L77JC4's will work very well.

Good luck!

On the 1974 OMC outboards, my thoughts coincide with Dhadley's suggestion of using Champion L77JC4 plugs. Set the gap to .040 .

You can also use the Champion QL77JC4 plugs with the same gap setting. The "Q" indicates that it is a resistor type plug that, to a point, restricts interference with any electronic equipment.
