Anybody have any experience or input on these boats? I am considering buying a 1998 Mod 2109GF with a 120 Force. Anyone with any input would be appreciated.

You will probably get a bunch of Bayliner slams, but they are pretty decent boats. Be sure to check for soft spots in the floors and transom. The Force engine is good, if a little underpowered for its rating.

My Dad has an 18 ft. VIP Deckboat that came with a 120 Force, he didnt like the performance and replace it with a Johnson. There was a world of difference between the two engines.

Good luck.

My opinion even if that is the best Force to come off the assembly line.Parts can be a real pain. For instance Evinrude/Johnson has 77 pages of parts in the NAPA marine products catalog. The
Chrysler/Force section has 13 pages.There is no
new part production support from Mercury. If you injoy the hunt for parts as some surely do there are many parts still out there.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

Thanks all. I did do the search that Bondo recommended and there are a lot of negatives, but also a few positives. I am going to do a test drive on it this weekend and make a decision. NADA books it out at over $14,000.00 and I can get if for $10,500.00 so it sounds pretty good. Did a real thorough visual check in every place I could get into today, no visible problems, and it is a good looking hull. Will let ya'll know how it goes.

Bondo, I'm surprised (and pleased) at your response. Much better than in the past.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

 Well now I am really in a delima. Came upon a 2000 model with the V6 I/O Mercruiser. The guy is asking $12K for it and it only has about 40 hours on it. What to do, what to do? Any input would be appreciated.

Unless you have shallow water concerns, go with the I/O you will be much happier. The Forces tend to be noisy, smelly, and tempermental. I had a Force and while it never stranded me, it did not put out like other similar sized motors. The 120 you mentioned will not feel like 120. The I/O on the other hand is much better suited for Deckboat usage as it is genreally quiet and smooth. To me its a no brainer. If we were talking about a 150Hp outboard from anyone but Force, I would look twice and think about it. But this comparison is heavily weighted on the I/O.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

Ok friends, thanks for all the input. I am gonna' go ahead and get the 1998 with the Force 125. The deal on the 2000 w I/O got away, but was also a "lot more" than the $12K I was originally told about. I did a good test run yesterday on the 1998 w/125 Force and she ran great. It is with the original owners and has had very little use, which is also obvious by the condition; the hull and seats in great shape with no sun fade and per the owner has always been stored in a covered shed. The boat is a little underpowered, but probably only because it is the Force motor. It planed off fairly quickly with me and the two owners; all 3 of us are in the 225 lbs plus range, and topped out at 33mph on it's speedometer. I expect to run the Force for a couple of years (hope) and then I will probably go with a 140 - 150. Thanks for your input.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

I just bought a '94 Bayliner Rendezvous, length 21'9", with a Force 120 HP outboard. The boat was used very little by the previous owner as he was very ill and passed away 4-5 years ago. His widow kept the boat out of the water all these years but not out of the sun, so a few of the vinyl seat covers are pretty much toast.

We took the boat out for a spin yesterday for the first time. It seemed to run well. The steering with the boat on plane seemed harder than I expected. At low speed the helm turns easily.

Overall I'm pleased with the boat.

proper trim adjustment will help the high speed steering.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

Trim was a problem on this boat. The motor would only work in one direction up OR down. To change direction you had to take the cover off the motor and switch the wires. Not real convenient.

The previous owner's son in law swore it was just a bad connection somewhere, but not a bad relay.

Turns out it was a bad relay after all. I replaced it and it works fine from the helm now.

Re: Bayliner Rendevous Deckboat

My 94 Bayliner Rendezvous came without a trailer so I'm looking for a used trailer to go with my used boat. A local trailer dealer told me that this was such an unusual hull shape that no trailer manufacturer has a standard model to fit it and furthermore there are no specs available for a custom manufacturer to use as a reference. I find all this very hard to believe.

Any words of wisdom from this group?
