About 20 years ago I added an air compressor to my collection of "stuff" in my garage. It is a Craftsman with a 2 hp motor that gives 125 lb of pressure. I would be lost in my tinkering & cleaning without it.

When I got it I picked up an unrestricted air gun. I was told the OSHA (sp?) had mandated that no air guns be sold that put out more than 40 or so psi due to safety. I was fat dumb and happy with my gun until about a month ago when it died and could not be repaired.

Anyone know where I can get an unrestricted air gun?

What do you mean by 'unrestricted'? I have 6 or so, never seen one that is detuned so to speak.

I like ingersol-rand and snap-on. CP don't last.

Aldo

I might be mistaken about the unrestricted but I don't think so. You see for many things our U.S. government thinks they are smarter than we are so they pass these stupid regulations on this and that under the banner of "safety". Maybe the downunder folks are smarter than we up here are.

All air gun tips are made from rubber. The rubber tip is designed to blow out or split if the tip is over pressurized. If it does not have a rubber tip and has a metal tip the tip should have air bleed holes around it. These are OSHA approved air guns. The rubber tip on the air gun could be removed [cut rubber off tip with knife] to reveal a solid tip [OSHA OUTLAWED]. I use OSHA approved guns everyday and am satisfied with product untill I need to do something which I really shouldnt be doing anyway. The OSHA approved guns do not restrict air flow they just have a design to release to much pressure i.e. tip splits/blows out or holes around tip for air to bypass.

Maybe thats just a home handyman gun, I can't imagine an auto workshop successfully using a restricted gun, 40 PSI wouldn't cut it. My best gun (newest & cleanest anyway :) ) is a 1/2" ingersol-rand, operates at around 90PSI.

Aldo
