Have seen several posts saying only run champions in a johnson. Why? I just put some ngk 's in my 71 60 horse. Is this a problem?

Re: spark plugs

Yes, its been known to be a problem with E/J's under certian circumstances. I would stick to the brand E/J recommends.

Re: spark plugs

I've never had a problem, used NGK's on my 69' 20hp, 57' 3hp, 74' 6hp and 76' 35hp. But, if there were problems, why not buy Champs?

Re: spark plugs

We're not saying they wont work. We're saying that under certian circumstances a (any) spark plug not recommended by the manufacturer (Evinrude / Johnson in this case) can be a problem. That problem can be a damaged piston.

If an NGK was recommended, by OMC or Bomb, for a carb'd 2 stroke built in the late 60's or newer, I missed it. If they calibrated the motor for Champions, thats what I would use/recommend.
