I just a bought a 14' aluminum Lowe semi v boat with a 15hp Evinrude from a friend. I did a search for jack plates, but could only find information on larger boats. Sorry if I've overlooked anything. I mainly fish rivers with shallow gravel bars. I was wondering if a jack plate would help much with shallow river running? The jack plate transom offset is 4" and the vertical offset is 3". The cavitation plate is currently 1 1/2"-2" below the hull. Also how will the new position of the motor(weight) affect the boat in shallow water?
Thanks in advance for any reply's

Re: Small Jack Plate

Start with the cav plate even with bottom of boat, and test, keep moving engine up until ventilation becomes a proble, then move it back down a little...
The 4" set-back won't make a huge difference in how the boat handles, although it will be somewhat better.
