Should the remote tank on this motor be vented? There's a big sigh whenever I open the cap. I've seen a little brass vent that you could open on some older tanks, but this one seems to have no venting provision.

Batchawana,

If you have an ORIGINAL OMC tank (one hose type), they are self venting.

Aftermarket tanks, typically, do not. They usually have a vent screw on the cap.

If you are having fuel starvation problems, just loosen the cap and see if that cures the concern.

You are tagging onto a 6 yr old post. If it has the 2 line connector on the motor then yes it does need a pressure tank.

That depends on the year. I believe it was 1960 when they changed over to the single line system. The best thing to do is check your model number and check back with us and also look at the connectoron the motor and see if it has one or two connectors on it.

Cool!! I own the same motor myself. Yes I do believe that is for locking. I have a pretty interesting thread on these old motors. I would say....quite indestructable they are. LOL:D

Hey BK. How's the arm feeling? ;)

They put a permanent cast on today, i'm awake cause the itch is driving me crazy :mad::mad::mad::

From the connector are their 2 gas lines going into the motor or 1?

I check the Model and year (1957-motor#15020)listing online. I can't find gas tank, fuel line assembly or nothing for that year. I have a newer yamaha gas tank (non pressure tank)and was wondering if I can just an fuel line assembly for it.

Yes, there are two lines going into the motor, I thought 1 of them was just a return line(overflow) back to the tank

One is feed the other is pressure, you will need a pressure tank or to covert it to pump/single line.

Re: '83 Evinrude 15 tank vent.

No, sorry you can't do that. Yes 15020 is a 57, just like mine. One of the nipples is a fuel inlet and the other is an air outlet. Not sure where you're getting the third one at. it must be some sort of locking deal or something.

Your Yamaha tank would work fine, for one of the newer single line set ups and you changed the connector for OMC. The older twin line OMC set ups are very proprietary and nothing else will work with them. If you want to convert that old Fastwin to a single line set up, then you'll need to install a fuel pump and a new single line connector on the motor. Getting the old twin line tanks can be a bit tough and spendy, usually. I got lucky and found one for 10 bucks, but I was REAL lucky. All I had to do was replace the hose and that was quite a bit more than I spent on the tank.

If you have a Yamaha tank already, it may be just as well that you convert to a single line set up. What you'll need to do is buy a fuel pump for a 1960 or later 18hp and a bypass cover to mount it on and the connectors that go on the motor, by the tiller handle.

The first one lol , I was on my way back from helping a buddy of mine install a server, I was the passenger in his car. We were 1 minute from home, he pulled a left right in front of an oncoming Chevy Trailblazer doing around 60km/hr. He left the scene with a broken neck (he's not paralyzed at all) and that was my arm damage from hitting the door. The driver of the TB had no injuries. We were in an Escape (I know, I escaped in the Escape lol )

Ouch! wait..are those deck screws or stainless?..Did they seal it with 5200?;)jk Glad everyone made it out. I was wondering why you haven't been around much this past week or so.

I hate the cast itch..haven't felt it in a few years (knock on wood) but it really does suck! get yourself a coat hanger and straighten it out. Works well for a scratching tool.
