Here goes... I'm on my boat. The engine has been running for 4 minutes(1989 60hp Johnson.)I go to the back of the boat to lift the trolling motor and notice that the outboard battery is not in its right place. I slide the battery with my foot and the Neg(-) lead comes off. The alarm goes off.(Constant Tone) The engine stays running. I turn the engine off and restart it and the alarm is still on. I ran the engine 2 hours that day. It ran fine. I even unintentionally got in some mud. The S.L.O.W. limiter kicked in just like it should. I ran it in reverse and shut it off and fished awhile. When I restarted the motor, the RPM's were just as they should be. But the alarm was still on. The boat sat for 2 weeks and last Sunday (April 18) I connected the battery in my driveway, turned the key 1 ckick and waited for the 3/4 sec declining tone that I always hear. Nope just that straight tone. What did I do? Did I blow some stupid little diode in the alarm circuitry. I've owned this motor for 1 1/2 years and I'm 99% sure that theres nothing wrong with the motor. Any guidance, in any direction, would help. Thanks Dean

I assume you checked all the connections at the battery after the kicking incident? You may have also blown the rectifier when the cable came off. Is the motor still charging the battery? Also, you may want to disconnect the tan lead on the temp. sensor on the back of the head and see if the horn goes off. It's a long shot that the temp. sensor went out at the same time the battery was disconnected, but ya never know....

Hi!

I have the same problem with my Johnson 60 -89 VRO. The main power switch was turned off in accident.

I'm for the time being looking at the wiring diagram and trying to figure out the problem.

Can't yet give you any valuable help.

Robert

Hi again!

I had a look at the engine today. Tryed to unplug the VRO and TEMP signals. Also checked that the engine charges the battery. Then opened the remote control and unplugged the purple wire from the alarm horn. Finally the alarm stopped beeping.

Robert
