I need to replace the lower unit seal on the prop shaft. I have a 1967 Evinrude 40HP, Model # 40773E, Serial # E02613. I purchased a kit on the iternet but the seal in the kit was larger that the original one. They said it would fit but it doesn't, not even close Any ideas where I can find one quick. I went to a local marina and ordered one and it was suppose to be @ the marina in three days. Well that turned into a week and that turned into two weeks and no seal yet. The part number on the seal is 313283.

Re: Evinrude Lower Unit Prop Shaft Seal

Are you sure that is the right partnumber?
313283 checks out as 1.3125 OD for a 0.8125 shaft, which is idicated for use on 60, 65, 75 and 80hp late '60s V4 engine's propshafts.
302564 checks out as 1.375 OD for a 0.75 shaft, which is indicated for use on a '60 - '73 40hp propshaft seal.
302564 crosses to Sierra 18-2021, which you should be able to get from NAPA autoparts. Apparently if they don't have it in stock, they can get it quick.

By the way, a complete seal kit with driveshaft seals, new spagetti, shift shaft seal, etc is 18-2686 for a manual shift 40, 18-2687 for an electric shift 40.

I just double checked - a 40hp has a 3/4" propshaft.
