Hiya,

I'm getting tired of waiting for the manual in the mail, and I'd like to get started on the tune up of this motor! This even though there is about 20 cm of snow so far today.

this motor is a short shaft... where does one disconnect the shift shaft on this guy? I'd like to pull the LU this evening and do the water pump (at the nice warm work bench).

Thanks!

Brent

Not sure on that particular model, but look underneath the carb and there should be the shaft with a screw through it. you can also locate it by putting it in gear and looking for movement of a shaft and locate it that way. Once you find it remove the screw and all bolts holding on the lower unit and it should pull out. Good Luck..

BF - that's horrible! I'm some glad to be here now...

To disconnect the shift-shaft, remove the "window" on the side of the exhaust housing (leg) and completely remove one of the two bolts on the shift-shaft coupler underneath it. The "window" is held on by two screws, and is sort of oval shaped.
Everything else is straight-forward. Put some sealer on all the bolts and screws so it comes apart easly next time.

PS - there's no adjusting the coupler. The bolt keys into the groove on the shift shaft. You'll see what I mean when you take it apart.

Hope this helps!

Hiya,

Thanks for the replies. Yes Paul I had noticed that plate on the LU and guessed that's what it might be for.... also thought it could be a flush port or some such thingy. Didn't get to it last night, hopefully tonight.

The snow is a bit annoying. It looks almost exactly like Xmas here... but it's that wet slushly snow that you probably see more of than me.

thanks...

Brent
