I have an 1980 Johnson 85HP. If the engine hasn't been started within about 6 hours, I always have to take the cover off and turn the fuel primer valve to manual start in order to start the engine. Once I do this I can turn the valve back to normal from manual and it starts up good every time. It's just when it hasn't been started in about 6 hours. Any ideas on how I can fix this would be great! Thanks!

What is your cold starting procedure? Are you pumping up the primer bulb and pushing in on the key primer ? With the key in the on position ,if you push in on the primer button can you here a click of the solenoid under the engine cover? If not ,the electric solenoid portion of the primer valve may be faulty.Either that,or the wiring from remote button to solenoid is not making.

My cold start procedure is: Pump the fuel bulb, Left up on the choke until it's in start position then turn the key. My unit doesn't let you push in on the key like you were referring. Still think it's the same thing?
