i own a 1978 9.9 evinrude that runs great.i have just bought a wider 14ft boat.the 9.9 will push it but is a little slow.i have within my budget a notion of putting a 15hp carb.on the motor.the problem is that i have been told the conversion would not help much without changing the exhaust tube.

The least expensive and smartest way to get 15hp is to trade your engine for a 15, Deacon.

The engines have the same displacement, so at any speed the torque is very close. The 15 will turn higher rpm, which is where it gets most of the 5hp.

You would notice very little difference in real world performance.

Welcome to iboats. :)
