i decarbed my motor and it gets alot more rpm my tach is broke but just listing to sound from 80% to 100% it sounds like it's slipping. is there a slip clutch for hitting stumps to save your lower unit like the shear pins on small motors.<br />thanks

Re: johnson 115 prop slipping

There is a rubber hub inside the prop that absorbs shocks when you strike something underwater. To check and see if you hub is spun, make a mark using a permanant marker on the inner prop hub and the prop itself. Run the heck out of it, especially from a dead stop, and then pull the prop and see if the marks line up. If not, the hub is spun and you will need a prop shop to repair it. Or, just take it to the prop shop and they will tell you right away if it's good or not. If it's OK, you may have just gained RPM's from the decarb... Oh yeah, get a Tach ASAP...
