Re: Size of the bolts for the 3 flywheel puller holes- 1990- 60hp Johnson
The proper bolt is a 2" long stripper bolt, the size is 5/16-24. "Stripper bolt" is a machinist term for a shouldered bolt of much higher guality than found in a general hardware store. This bolt has only about 1/2" length that is threaded so that it is pulled down to the unthreaded shoulder, it is also used with a 1/8" thick tempered washer. The flywheel you are trying to pull is torgued down to 105 lbs. Using a run of the mill hardware bolt can result in a broken, or stripped bolt. Most machine supply dealers handle these bolts. Buy the proper bolts, and store them with your puller, they can save a big headache.
