I currently have a Formula 500 with Evinrude 200 XP 1993 engine, the boat currently have a 19 pitch propeller and is very fast but for skiing the launch of the boat is difficult and I have to move the trim up and down untill it wins speed.
I heard that for this activity for this engine should be better a 17 pitch propeller.

Any one could tell me if it is good idea to buy the hustler 14-1/4 Dia. 17 Pitch and if I can solve the problem that way.

A 17 should give you better hole shot... but if you go that way keep an eye on your tach. You may want to look at trim tabs, may solve your problem, with your current prop, give you the best of both worlds. I haven't priced them but I believe smart tabs are about the same price as a new prop. I'm sure tabman will respond and give you more info.

Welcome to the forum!!

im

Andres

Reducing the pitch on the prop will give you more acceleration but it will still jerk the skier up as the acceleration will not be smooth. Also, the lower pitch prop will cost yo fuel economy since the engine will run faster at every level. Smart Tabs (under $200.00 US) will allow the boat to accelerate flat (like a ski boat), very little bow rise, and accelerate smoothly. The top speed will increase 2 MPH to 4MPH because you will be able to trim the motor for better speed without concern for porpoising. Handling will also be improved since they constantly (automatic) adjsut to the conditions.

Search on this site for more information and feed back regarding Smart Tabs, and go to www.NauticusInc.com for installation information.

andres - What RPMs are you getting at wide open throttle now? It would also help for you to describe your boat and where the cavitation plate is relative to the bottom of the hull.

Thank you everybody, your answers have being very helpful, Due to the fact that Gas consumption is an issue with this engine and probably the RPMs will increase above the manufacturer limit I have decided to purchase the Smart tabs to try them.

As soon as I install them I will let you know the results.

Nautijonh:
I read all your suggestions to other people about smart tabs, My boat is a 19' with V hull 200HP V6, what Smart tabs do you recomend the ST1290-60 or 80 The recomendation at the web page says the 80 but I just want to confirm.

andres;

Please forgive the delay in this answer. Use the ST1290-80. The pressure is adjustable via the mounting location on the plate bracket. If the top speed of the boat is not better or at the least the same, reduce the lift pressure (not the angle)- look at the instructions carefully.

Re: Propeller for Evinrude 200 XP 1993

I hope everybody who are considering buying the smart tabs but are afraid of loosing their money read this....
They are absolutely amazing...
I install them my self on my boat, and now as NautiJohn said it accelerates flatter, and the most important, now I have very little bow rise, and it also accelerates smoother. The top speed increases from 45 MPH to 49MPH and the handling is improved also; you can turn easyly.

John and Cuzner thank you for your advice. By the way the gas consumption also was redeced becuase you don't have to accelerate too much to reach the speed you need.

Amazing prouct, simply amazing, they in fact do everything they are designed to do. You wont recognise your boat when you install them and get them set up properly.

Hi Lube;

We have not talked for awhile and I apologize for that. Give me a buz when you have time. I need your T-shirt size!

All the best!

Andres; I am very pleased your are happy with the performance. It is often hard to tell people what Smart Tabs can do for a boat without sounding like a "used car salesman". No offense to used car salesmen, it's just a classic phrase.
Then it becomes even harder when Smart Tabs are compared to hydrofoils. There simply is no comparison.
