Lower Unit Washers vs Orings

What is the advantage of using the dealer washers for the drain & fill screws on the lower unit. I have used same size o rings and have never had a problem. Seems the washers are like $1.50 a piece and oring is like .10 cents.

It depends on which screw you have.

All I can say is that I would use whatever came off. Whether it's a washer or O ring. That does not mean you cannot take yours to the local hardware store and match them up and get some there. Nothing special about the dealer washers, except the money. Most times they are nylon and if you get the right size, you're good to go. If the O ring works for you, use it. But that may not work on all engines designed for washers..
