Have a 1988 Evinrude 140 that does not stop! First I could not get it started. Have cleaned all electrical connections. After cleaning it started but did not stop. A week later no spark on the plugs. Have changed power pack (then it started but no stopping)and changed the ignition switch. Still starts but no stopping. Have measured connection of Yellow+red wire all the way into the powerpack and there is a signal closing when key is turned off. Any idea? (99% sure I have wired correctly, have diagram)

A black wire with yellow stripe is your kill circuit. Trace it from your power pack back to you key switch. It functions by grounding the ignition. If everything is alright I suspect the key switch

Re: Evinrude 140 don't stop

Thank you for reply. My Evinrude now stops! Bad connection in the black and yellow wire, as you indicated, between power pack and wire to key switch. In addition to that the wire in the control box was squeezed and therfore grounded. Thanks for all help. Keep up the good work! I can now enjoy the long 5 weeks of summer we have in Norway!
