1959 35hp Flywheel torque?

Torque has been stated as 105 foot lbs here, but my new SELOC repair manual lists "720-780 inch/lb" which would be 60-65 foot pounds. That is for 1957-59 35HP. The 33hp and 40hp in the 1960's have the 105 ft/lb spec.

If there weren't such a big difference I wouldn't be concerned, but it sounds like this is an important spec. Do I need another service manual?

I think your manual is right, I see 105lb quoted a lot here, and for most of the other large twins that's right, but for the majority of engines it's less.
I was surprised to see that my 18hp needed just 45lbs, having seen 105lbs mentioned so often I just assumed that was the correct torque for all the engines, regardless of size.
I find the Seloc to be a very good manual, apart from the odd typo and a few ambiguous statements it's quite easy to understand and follow the procedures.

Hello Burgie
I just checked in the specs book and your 1959 should go with the "720-780 inch/lbs".

Thanks for the backup on this. I'm going with the book.

Petrolhead: Thanks for your input. I feel better about the manual, too. It does have typos, but I'm glad you find info good stuff. Later. Burg
