1961 Johnson 75 hp overcharging prob.

my charging system is overcharging so much that it really loads down the motor. Can anyone tell me what might cause this? Thanks.

I believe that model had an actual generator/mechanical regulator circuit. <br /><br />That being the case, I would start by checking all grounds, then looking towards the regulator.<br /><br />Beyond that, the actual test procedures escape me right now.

yep it has a stator under the flywheel, and a rectifier and voltage regulator in the control box under the transom. i just replaced the regulator. also noticed i have 12 volts in the blue wire coming from the stator going to the regulator, think thats why the old one fried.
