I need some help here. I have a 1983 15 hp long shaft Rude. Recently it has taken to stalling when I try to advance the throttle. It has done this on a cold and a warm engine. It even may stall when I am at the "Start" speed and going for a while. Yesterday, when I was about 3/4 throttle, it started to stall, but I gave the bulb a sqeeze and it continued to run fine.

When it does stall, it starts up fine.

My friend at the dock thinks it is the fuel pump diaphram.

This is an intermittent problem, where do I start on this one?

Thanks.

Paul

Can you repeat the scenario where you squeeze he primer and it continues to run OK?

When it was running at 3/4 speed it began to stall and I gave the bulb a squeeze and it ran fine after that.

It could be the fuel pump diaphram but I think it more likely it is crud in the carb (rebuild the carb) or air entering the fuel line or a clogged pick-up line in the fuel tank. I doubt the diaphram as you said it ran at 3/4 throttle that would indicate that the fuel pump is pumping.

Thanks. I looked in my book to see if the carb has a bowl like the older ones had, bud did not see one in the pics. Thought that there may be water or something in it.
