gas oil ratio 15 hp johson '84 / evi. '75

i'm looking for the gas/oil ratio for a 1975 15hp evinrude (model 15504c) and a 1984 johnson 15hp (model j15rcrm). frustrated with bombardier's variations on the two websites that don't list the old motors ratios... does anyone have a reliable source as to what these ratios are?<br /><br />thanks,<br />-jp

The manual for the 1984 15 HP calls for a 50:1 ratio {I have one }. The 1975 should be 50:1 also. Welcome to the forum.

thanks, jack. what are the chances of the evinrude having a different ratio? if there's someone out there that could confirm the 50:1, i'd sleep better...

My 1976 Johnson Manual for my 9.9 calls for a 50 to 1 ratio. Good night.

50:1 is right. Some manufacturers suggested 100:1 for a couple years in the 80's, (so you could come across an owner's manual that would say that), but they "recanted" and within a year or two went back to saying 50:1 (so that's what you should use even if your owner's manual says 100:1).<br /><br />Some oldies (60's and earlier) or air cooled motors may call for higher ratio's.<br /><br />look at this link for info about your motors, it's a great article.<br /> 15 hp maintenance article <br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Brent

Why would evinrude have differnt oil needs. From 1950 and maybe earlier till 2000 Evinrude and Johnson were, except for cowl shape, remote control design and paint colour, idential engines.
