115 won't fire

I just purchased a boat with a 1975 115 horse evinrude. The older couple I purchased from said they ran it on the trailer in april with no problem. I tried running it today and it won't even try to start. I checked all 4 cylinders and I have spark and good compression. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them out. Still nothing. I just switched the fuel pump and nothing again. I'm running out of options. Any ideas?

Squirt some pre-mix in the carb throats and see if it will fire off.

got it to fire and run squirting gas to the carbs. Now it surges and falls back when at any partial throttle but goes great when at full throttle. Spark Plugs?

Sounds like the carbs are still fouled. Especially the idle circuit and the intermediate jets.

Do I just clean the jets or are they replaced in the rebuild kit? It also idles very high and is hard to get out of gear into neutral. Realated problem?

I like to tear the carbs down and soak the carb body and the float bowl in carb cleaner. Just leave the jets in. Your high idle problem is probably in your throttle/timing linkage. You really need a manual to set the linkage and syncronize the carbs.

Any suggestions on a good manual and where to get one? Anywhere on line with a good manual?
