Cranks - but won't start! 1966 Johnson VX-12 60HP

My 1966 Johnson VX-12 60HP cranks, but the motor will not start. The plugs are all good condition, gas is getting to the carb, and the gas/oil mix is correct, but with motor still will not start.<br /><br />Any suggestions for trouble shooting? I am new to this, so any help is greaty appreciated!<br /><br />Thanks in advance!!!!

That has the belt driven magneto hanging off the back of the block. remove the wire from the mag that attaches to the motor's wiring harness, leave the other wire on the terminal. See if you get spark or if the motor fires up, if so you will have to choke it to turn it off, and that means you have a problem with the ignition switch and/or boat wiring. If you still have no spark, then the magneto will need servicing.

Thanks Seahorse. We gave that a try, and still no spark. I am waiting for my manual in the mail to see what can be done about the mag - do you have any other trouble shooting advice for this issue?
