I have an Evinrude 15 outboard that starts well and runs well at low speeds. It accelerates normally to about a third of full power and then dies...like it is not getting fuel. I replaced the fuel hose w/ bulb from the gas tank to the motor thinking there was probably a blockage problem. Incorrect! It will sometimes try to run a little better top end if i remove the cap from the fuel tank to vent the tank. Anyone got any ideas what the problem is? ANY help would be help. Thanks in advance!

I experienced a similar problem on my 25 Evy. It turned out to be a bored out jet that caused the motor to drown in fuel. Replaced with spec. Now runs like a rocket - better fuel consumption as well.

Welcome to the iboats forum!!

Can you post the info from the ID tag of your motor so that we can get the year of your motor??

Based on what you already mentioned, will your motor run in the top end rpm's if you pump the fuel primer bulb while underway?? What we're trying to find out is, if it's a fuel pump problem or possibly a carb problem. Possible carb float/valve problem or a clogged high speed jet. Other possible areas are low compression figures and ignition etc.

A little background info will go a long way in helping you to find your problem. A service manual is a must.

Thanks for the info. I will have to write down the model# sometime when it is not midnight. I did try pumping the fuel bulb while underway and there was no change. I will look into the float valve stuff. Thanks again!
