hello. if you know me than you know ive had troubles with this lil thing since day one.

i replaced both ign coils, both points and both condensors. also replaced ign wires and plugs.

motor ran semi-fine... but it ran!

i swapped powerheads with it using a powerhead from a 1968.when the powerhead was off and all parts removed, i primed and repainted it nice and new, taping over the crank and plug holes and carb inlet, among others.

put back together with "new"1968 powerhead, but used all old parts from the 1972 motor(wich worked before).

now i get no spark. compression is a fair 80lbs on both cylinders.

QUESTION: when i repainted the powerhead, is it possible that i painted over a spot or bolt hole that was used for ign ground? where does the ign ground at?

i have seloc manual and 1973 parts diagram from omc, and cant find where it grounds on either one.

any ideas? all are apreciated. thanks

All ignition part are mounted on a plate ?
So therfore are all parts connected together ,but there are no connection to the grund on the powerhead , try remoing the paint under all screws used to fastend the "ignition plate " ( dont know itt name :) ) .

Or just mount a wire from the powerhead to this plate .

Masking tape on this places next time ? :)

Mike,
You probably painted over the grounding strip on the underside of the armature plate. Pull the flywheel, remove 4 screws holding the armature plate. You should see the 'grounding strip', along with a cable clamp for the high tension wires under the same screw. Make sure the grounding strip and it's mating surfaces are free from all paint and reassemble.
