motor release

I have a 1972 evinrude 9 1/2 sportwin/short prop.new to me,can't get release to tip motor up to work. what is the secret?

It has to be in forward gear to release.<br />I know it sounds crazy but I have one of those ,same year.

Yea I had a few colourful words for it when I tried to. If you have it close by just drop it in gear and it doesn't have to be running to do this just yank on it and the latch will release.<br />It was one of their less innovated ideas. If you will look right under the power head you will see a little flat like trip lever that you can push backwards on when you raise it and it will stay up. or its suppose to.<br />Look down below and you will see a odd shaped head of a bolt that you can push in and it releases the bar that controls the trim set.<br />Gotta love that little squatty motor though.

Also, the motor cuts out at low speeds.Run's great at half throttle or wide open.Slow speed not nessesary but would be nice....Rjnreds
