Welcome to iboats.

But unfortunately you might have ruined your voltage regulator. There are two big things that take out regulators, connecting the battery backwards and loose connections. Disconnection is the ultimate loose connection. It might have survived, though. Check to see if your voltage rises when the motor runs. That's unrelated to the buzzer problem, but you might have created a new one.

Your motor will give off two different warnings. Intermittent beeping means there's an oil problem, solid beeeeep means it's overheating. You can also get a constant tone if the alarm has failed. There's circuitry inside that gives you a check that the system is functional by beeping everytime you turn on the key. If that self'check system is compromised, it should sound the horn steady, even if the motor isn't even running.

If you turn the key and get a constant tone with a cold motor, there are three possibilities. A bad sensor (rare), a short in the wiring (most common), or a bad warning horn (fair possibility). Did disconnecting the battery damage the horn? It's an electronic device just like the voltage regulator, so ..... yup. At least it's a good possibility, but I'd have thought it would have failed immediately when you disconnected the battery.

Speaking of disconnecting the battery on a running motor ... was the water pump getting water when you were running it? Just checking.
