I have a 2000 Johnson 90 and I'm going to use it for pulling ship's lines and oil booms. I've got to replace the prop anyways and was wondering what would be a good pulling prop for that motor.
It all depends on the actual load but just guessing I would start with a prop about 4" less in pitch than the proper one for your normal use. IE -- if you normally use a 19 and are set up about 5800 -- 6000 then to pull what we perceive to be a very heavy load, I'd look at a 15.
I'll be towing boom and lines at low speeds 7 knots or less, but I'll need to run to the jobs at a good speed. I've done it a bunch with stock props, but I wouldn't mind giving up a little top end for some more pull if I won't overload the motor.
