If it won't seat properly, somethings not right. I would take it apart and start again. Take the handle off and let the rope wind back in really slowly. When it is right in and there isn't any tension on the spring, remove the top bracket and withdraw the cylinder that the rope coils around. Remove the rope. <br /><br />Make sure that the spring is located properly at the bottom, then rplace the starter cylinder minus the rope. With the top bracket back on and the spring located both ends, turn the large screw at the top of the culinder, 16 1/2 turns anti-clockwise. To help prevent the spring from unwinding prematurely, you can place something under the bendix to hold it up so that it meshes with the ring gear teeth on the flywheel.<br /><br />When you've tensioned the spring, you can then replace the starter rope through the hole in the cowling and onto the starter cylinder. The replace the handle and let the spring slowly recoil the starter rope.<br /><br />The manual does a much better job of describing the procedure than I do!<br /><br />Good luck<br />Steve
