ISL....Yeah, look at the primer solenoid on the engine and see if it's been equipped with the maint valve. If so, remove the cap and screw on the hose from the fogging can. Keep the lever in the "normal" position.

OBJ, thanks for the reply, I imagine this would something pretty easy to recognize, and I don't see it, maybe they didn't have it in 1983?

Can you take a look, see if I have it? If not, my question is, can I just cut off the tip and use this as reg fogging oil using the procedures in the FAQ on winterizing?

Thanks a million.

I'm_Still_a_learning,You are correct.Your engine is not equipped with the schrader valve on the primer solenoid.Fogging of that engine is done through the air intake silencer.Don't know if the can you have is suitable for this ,but you can get one that is.OMC makes a good fogging oil.

OMC has a retrofit valve for their older motors. I installed one on my 88 Johnson 110. Took me ten minutes and cost about 15 bucks.

The new valve Calico is talking about would make things a lot easier. Not only can you fog with it but you can also decarb through it. Beats taken off the carb cover all the time. The valve is real easy to change out also. Instructions come with the valve....and I believe the valve itself is under $7.

Re: Primer lever valve cap

Nope...that little thing, called a maint valve is only carried by John/Rude dealers. PN 175158

Just a word about changing it out....there is four screws that have to be turned out a couple turns each to losen the head on the primer solenoid. When you tighten them back up, DON'T over do it. The plastic head can crack. Lube the oring on the new valve a little so it'll go in a little easier.

Let us know how ya' make out.
