1962 3HP Evinrude Carb problems HELP!

I need carb help. The gas isn't getting into the cylinders. The motor has a built in tank on top, <br />the gasline is free, getting into the carb, but it isn't getting into the cylinders. I have rebuilt the carb, cleaned everything. There is no gas getting from the carb to the cylinders. I don't believe there is a fuel pump. It is gravity fed into the carburaetor. Please HELP! What could it be? It is turning over and will run for a few seconds if I pour gas into the cylinders/carb. Sparkplugs are dry. Any suggestions? <br />Thanks, <br />Dave

Did you change the float or setting sounds like needle vavle is sticking shut

Howdy, Dave.<br /><br />Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />My guess is that your clean and rebuilt carb has clogged jets or orifices. I would like to have a buck for every clean carb I have found with that problem.<br /><br />Try again, and use mechanical means or air pressure to ensure that all those tiny passages are clear. Give particular attention to the tiny orifices in the bottom wall of the carb throat just before and just after where the butterfly meets it.<br /><br />Good luck.

Did you replace the needle & seat, and is the float installed right side up?

One other idea - if you remove the small brass slot screw at the bottom of the bowl of the carb, does gasoline come out? That is to say, does gas actually get to the carb at all? There is a fuel filter hidden up above the fuel petcock inside the tank. Remove the large brass nut piped above the petcock to find it. It's very fine and prone to clogging if gas left in the tank ever soured.<br /><br />Good luck, tell us what you find!<br /> 3hp Tuneup article, click here.
