Well I am back for some answers I am just getting ready to put my Gt 150 on the water and see if it runs good after rebuilding Carbs I thought I would put new oil in the lower unit so I when up to west marne and bought new Nylon gasket before draining lube Of course had to buy the plugs also The kits had a plug and a new Nylon gasket no rubber o rings .Well when I pulled the drain and fill plugs there was only a rubber o ring no nylon gasket. My question is there suppose be a nylon and and o ring or just what. Also the lube is milky so I have a leak somewhere so after draining the unit what can I flush the old milky stuff out with solvent or what.Because there will be enough old stuff to make the new lube turn milky So I am sure it needs to be flushed before adding new lube.NEED ANSWERS

Maybe that's why the L/U lube was milky?
Just my two cents
Dave

The drain & fill plugs that take an o-ring have a groove in the under the head where the o-ring goes. If you don't have that groove, then use the nylon gaskets. If you have the groove, you need to get either the o-rings or some new fill/drain plugs.

If you left the drain/fill plugs out for a few hours, I would think 99% of the milky lube would drain out. Although I've never done it myself, I would think the best way to flush out the last 1% would be to pump a little fresh lube in the vent (upper) hole and let it flow through the lower unit and out the drain hole.

Cheers.

Ok I just went to the lake which is close by And my engine ran great Lots of power fron a Idle So I guess it was dirty carbs I know on the bottom Carb one of the jets was pretty dirty I think That was the one that was the problem I feel good knowing I save a bunch of money doing my own work which I have never done. Thanks to all the tips from you fellows it sure Helped to encourage me to do it.Now I am thinking of tackling the new seals in lower unit.I am sure that is a much bigger task they rebuilding three carbs.

hello
there were 3 styles of OMC drain/fill plugs.
the one with a face groove uses an oring. anything else will leak.
the one with a ridge on the face used a nylon washer. the one that has a flat face used a paper composition gasket and will leak with an oring and most the time with a nylon. be careful what parts ya mix.

Thanks rodbolt, I was just about to correct my mistake there - you cannot use nylon washers on the o-ring type lower units no matter what you do.

To directly answer puffen's question, you use the o-ring only.

hello again
there is no difference in the casting just the design on the face of the plug. most omc/bomb kits now come with plugs and nylon washers
