99' ficht converted to carburated

recently purchased a rebuilt powerhead with low hours, 99 ficht converted to carburated. just wondering if it's any good? since it's been converted to carburated, i'm sure it's basically the same as all the loopers of the 90's. so will it have the same problems that the 99 ficht engines have? or since it's not ficht anymore is it good?

I don't have a clue of how that could be done! Could you explain a little more how this was done! It can't be like going from VRO to pre-mix.

I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm assuming that the obvious places to change would just be the cylinder heads, since ficht heads and looper heads are different. and also the intake manifold would change, to fit the carburators.

The whole flywheel and electrical system would also have to be changed out. <br /><br />Internal passageways and a recirculation sytem would be needed for lubrication, compared to the FICHT's pressurized oil delivery.<br /><br />There may be a complete carbureted powerhead installed on the midsection, but I doubt very much that someone just put carbs on a FICHT and made it run.<br /><br />Be very careful then of what you are buying. It could be a "jury rigged" nightmare.

It can be done but there are lots of things that have to be made, changed and modified on the block alone. I'm with Seahorse. I'll bet its a carb'd dressed powerhead on a Ficht mid section. Or a Ficht hood and pans on an existing carb'd 60 degree looper.

Yes, a photo and the model number from the serial number plate could tell us a lot.

Just got it back home now, and it's just the powerhead stripped, in case you thought it came with midsection and lower unit and all. it's been modified a bit. I can tell it was originally a ficht block. i'll get pics posted later, but it was rebuilt recently, and during the rebuild many mods were done. the flywheel part of the block seems to have been cut off and then polished flat and holes drilled in to accept the flywheel of a normal looper. the cylinder heads have also been changed to looper heads. then many places where bolts would go on the powerhead for different accessories seem to have been also cut, polished and drilled for different sizes and places. the manifold seems to still be the original ficht manifold. guy that sold it to me said it was running perfect, only had to cover up the little inlets for oil on the manifold with a rubber thing to keep air from going in through there. has less than 60 hours on rebuild, compression high and even. came off a boat that was totaled. and i got it all for $264.00, so I can't really complain. seems the guy forgot to put a reserve on ebay. he seemed kinda pissed to let it go...but his fault. i'll get pics up later

Good luck with that thing! You shold be able to get service anywhere, should you have a problem.

For $264.00 you can't loose. You could part it out for lots more.<br /><br />I would keep close to home until you are sure that it is running OK in case you run into problems. I am leary of sellers who say "guy that sold it to me said it was running perfect". Often they wind up here with long tales of woe.
