I could do a search but that's no fun.....so, some here have said they disliked the sierra kits due to Gasket material was it????
I know they have super-soft bowl to body gaskets...was that the issue??? Or was there more to it than that?
I haven't had any such issues with sierra kits, but one of their bearings caused some serious grief...
Are there carb kits out there of a good quality that are cheaper than OEM? Been using AP and Sierra too long, I guess.

The bowl, and boss gasket was the issue. They would turn mushy, and give an idle problem. They may be alright now. I don't know. I also ran into a problem with some Sierra spark plug boot's. I could short the plug out by touching the boot with a ground probe.

OEM, Bomby, have been using the Viton gasket material for a lot of years. Resists the new formulated gas a lot better than the black stuff in the Generic kits. From what I've seen, the black material don't last long. AP used to have some pretty good stuff. Havn't seen any of there stuff for a while. Sierra looks like the same old same old.

I would use OE kits on stuff that supplies the motors life blood. I too have seen some problems with some of Sierras parts in some kits.

We have used a lot of Aqua Power parts in the past but since their demise those good parts are hard to find.

Not that Sierra/Aquapower/etc... don't make other parts pretty decent, But for carb kits, I stick to OEM for any make of engine. They just fit better!

Re: Sierra Carb kits...

Let me clarify that last staement some...

They are making parts for Mercury and BRP. Both Mercury and BRP offer "parts for competitor's products". They are supplying Mercury with aftermarket parts that fit OMC/BRP, and BRP with aftermarket parts that fit Mercury.

That's not hardly what I would call "OEM".

Aqua Power and Sierra are one and the same now. Basically there is no AP as it used to be. They were merged when Teleflex bought Morse.

Re: Sierra Carb kits...

The sierra kits I just received for a 175 V6 have brown gasket material....the sierra kits I put in my 200 (same kit P/N) had black gaskets..???
Aqua power was all we used after dropping our OMC dealership, and haven't had any problems with those, but I can't say I've had any problems with the late sierra kits either...
Just want this 175 to be right beings it's a customer's O/H.....I don't want it coming back and had I not heard mention of someone having issues with the sierras, I wouldn't have asked..
