Just bought this outboard which is a one owner fairly low hour engine. Not charging, could someone tell me some quick charging system checks. Have already gone over the connections etc.

Also changed the lower end gear lube, lube is seeping from a hole adjacent to the upper oil level plug and from one at the water intake. At the risk of sounding stupid what's up with this?

Thanks.

I don't think that motor comes with a charging system. Look on the port side opposite the starter there would be a generator, run by a belt
from the flywheel. If you don't have a generator it is possible to find a generator and regulator, just gotta look. Chief

Thanks Chief, this engine is alternator equipped with electric shift I've located the volt/reg/stator etc and checked all the wiring.

I guess I can check the stator output and go from there?

Don't have a manual so was wondering if anyone had run accross this.

you say you have a low hour, 43 year old engine with a charging problem. In the junction box, there is a 50 amp fuse that look's like a little box of porcelain! see if that is blown.

Thanks, it's ok. I think I have a rectifier problem, ordered a manual so we should be good to go in a bit.
