Johnson TN 27 Carb

I have a Johnson TN 27 that I cannot get started. I have cleaned the carb and resealed the cork float, replaced the spark plugs and checked the ignition system, all to no avial. I can get it to fire a few times by pressing on the carb float valve through the hole in the top of the housing and allowing the float bowl to overfill. It will fire with this done and a fully lean mixture setting and throttle open but then dies and wont fire again with normal mixture and throttle settings. Any suggestions? I have the float set to the original position with the clip in the notch.<br /><br />Thanks, my arm is getting sore.

have you tried the primer?<br />push the knob on on the top this causes it to prime the motor.<br />and the low speed is controlled by the bent wire that you see sticking out of the right side need the botom on the front.<br />I hope this helps.

How did you clean the carb, Dune?<br /><br />You are describing a carb with a plugged low speed circuit, most likely the tiny orifice in the carb throat.<br /><br />When you overfill the float bowl it is overflowing from the high speed jet into the carb throat, allowing the engine to start, but not to keep it running.<br /><br />Good luck.

Update:<br /><br />I think my float is bad. I have now been able to get the engine to start and run for about 30 seconds with normal settings on both needles. The engine seems to flood after running for about 30 seconds. It will not start again unless I let it sit for several hours, after which it will start with a puff of smoke and run for a few seconds then die.I think the low speed jet is clear as fuel comes from the port in the front of the engine when I press the primer pump.<br /><br />Thanks for all your help<br /><br />Dylan.
