Hope its not the beginning of the same problem that happen to me. Remove the spark plugs, bring each piston close to top dead center by turning the flywheel by hand. Put some light pressure on the top of the piston with a screw driver and see if there is some play as you rotate thru TDC. Play will indicate impending wrist pin or rod bearing failure. It does not show up at first with power loss but goes downhill rapidally as failure continues. Good luck fred

If the mechanical checks out as fred has stated, than what you might be hearing is detonation. Sometimes if a cylinder or cylinders run lean enough, it sounds like marbles rattling around in the motor.Every once in a while you come across a motor that you can hear the detonation above the noise of the motor. Check your timing and compare it to the decal on the air box cover. Try using a spray bottle with mixed gas in it and spry it into both carbs with the engine running. Be careful of moving parts. If the rattling dissapears than its time to clean the carbs. An engine can run at its best, due to a lean condition, before it blows. Hope its not mechanical and fixable.
