55hp johnson starting problems

when trying to start my 55hp johnson it will not start in the water. starts fine out of water with hose attached. once its warmed up I can put it in the water and start it. any ideas what that could be?

Welcome to iboats. I know that backpressure from being in the water will make a difference in your idle. If you can set your idle around 1000 rpms on muffs it should drop to about 750-850 on the water. Maybe it's too low. I really don't know. You need to post the model number of your engine so the mechs on the board know which engine you really have. If nothing else this will bump you back to the top.
