1992 Evinrude 90hp

a few times at the end of last season i had to tap on what i believe is the solenoide, a round thing with the wires attached to it ahead of the starter. i believe that i need anew one i am just wondering if this could go bad and by tapping on it it would work. thanks for your hepl!!

Welcome to iboats ColDyl!<br />Yup, sure sounds like the starter solenoid. Can they go bad, sure, it's just a big -high current carrying-relay. You could try removing the wires, one at a time, and cleaning the contact surfaces, replace the wires. Check the solenoid mounting bolts too. Some solenoids need a solid 'ground' connection to operate properly. If it still acts up, replace it.

Make sure that you disconnect the battery before messing with the wires.

Check your neutral safety switch, this supply's ground to the solinoid.
