when you say " no spark" be specific. we cant help if you just say," help, wont start"<br /><br />is it no spark on any cylinders, or just one. and have you taken the plug out and tried new plugs?<br /><br />have you tried swapping coils?<br /><br />do you have a volt meter? there are a few test you can do to telll if your stator is even making voltage or not.<br /><br />we need specifics. we cant see your motor.<br /><br />mike

If you have points in this engine you may need to clean or change them. Check your flywheel key to make sure that it is not spun or sloppy. Just guessing as I don't have a manual for your engine either. Check all your grounds and make sure they are clean. Check for a loose/corroded wire.

No points in the 1973 50 twin. The parts are stator/charge coil, sensor, powerpack & coil. My GUESS would be pack, but without testing the charge coil & sensor outputs, or swapping in a known good pack, it's impossible to tell. Are you sure the throttle is all the way down when you check for spark?

Sorry, Mike, I meant all the way closed. Close the throttle all the way. There is a 'kill' wire that kills the ignition by grounding it - so first try spinning it with that wire disconnected from the pack. That'll rule out a bad control box, keyswitch, etc..<br /><br />Still no spark? OK the procedure to test your powerpack is basically to rule everything else out. You can check the resistance of the charge coil and the sensor coil, & you might get lucky right there. However, beyond that you need to measure the pulse that the stator puts out, and the pulse that the sensor in the timer base puts out. To measure those pulses, you need a peak-reading voltmeter, or an oscilloscope. A regular voltmeter won't do it.
