Hi all,

I replaced the impeller on my 1997 Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro this week before the initial launch.

Launched yesterday. Started the motor up and got a very strong stream from the telltale, shoots straight out about four or five feet and has a ton of pressure. However I have 0 psi on the water pressure gauge. Motor ran fine on the trip from the ramp to the river for a little fishing, then back to the dock. Pressure gauge worked last year before winterizing. Any ideas?

loose wire on the guage or loose connection at the sensor?

No wires or sensors on a water pressure gauge luckily. If it worked last year I wonder if the hose split / broke from freezing? Or is simply plugged. Where is it T'd into the system?

I looked at the bundle going into the cowling, found battery cables, shift cables, and electrical cables, but no water hose. Is it definitely mechanical, having a hose to the guage?

Should be. The hose should come in on the starboard side. If it isnt there that would explain why the gauge doesnt work. :D

Look at the back of the gauge so youll see what the hose looks like. It should come into the powerhead area right near the throttle and shift cables. If it isnt there crank up the motor on the flushette and there should be water coming from somewhere.

I had it out yesterday, my wife was no-waking up the creek and I did look for water coming from anywhere, there was none. I'm going to look at it better tonight and I'll report back.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the tips. I looked and looked again and everything looked fine. Then I looked again and realized that last fall when I had the cowl off, I smushed the hose for the pressure gauge between the cowl and the block when I reassembled it. Freed it up, checked it for cuts, then started the engine up and whala, almost 15psi at idle.

Glad I changed the impeller too. Last fall when I bought the boat, I would only get just a bump off of 0 at idle as far as water pressure. Obviously even though the impeller I just replaced looked 100% fine when I removed it, something wasn't right with it.

Thanks!
