I own a Johnson 25 HP shortshaft model 25R74M ser. no. E4020267 that runs nice. I want to convert to a long shaft. I found a 25 HP longshaft Evinrude Model 25253 R ser. no. E0002553 for $100.00 are these the same year, and will the parts work? Is it a worthwhile project or should i buy a 198? chrysler 25 HP electric start that a neighbor has for $500.00 ?
Thanks for your help,
Mark

Welcome to Iboats, zstir!
Evinrude 25253 is a '72 25hp. It's lower unit should bolt right onto your '74.
I would go with the Johnson. Parts are easier to find and cheaper, and IMO it's a better engine. If you want electric start, look for a parts engine that's got it already and swap it over too.
