What color are the plugs when you pull them. That will tell a lot. Also, please lose the caps, it looks like you are shouting.

Sorry for the caps. The plug is dark and wet with fuel. I can swap em and it will do the same to the other one.

Start with a compression check on both cylinders. Then a spark test when it drops the cylinder. If all is good then you have a fuel issue.

Re: 50 HP JOHNSON FOULING 1 PLUG

Hey Guys, I just wanted to post a reply.
1st- My compression checked out O.K. about 115 to 120 per cylinder.
2nd- I bought the boat from a local dealer who went through the motor and goy her up to par. But unfortunately the put the wrong plugs in.
Not that they were keeping me from running , but they were not what the manufacturer called for.
3rd- It seems since the boat set up for almost a year. The carbs were a little gummed up. So rather than rebulid them I put in some carb cleaner.
Now it runs alot better but still has some hesitation thru the throttle. I'll probably have to rebuild the carbs to see the best results .
Thanks for your help guys!!

If the carbs are not gummed to bad you might want to run some seafoam mixed with your gas for a couple of tanks it does a good job of cleaning one out. Seafoam can be purchased at the local napa auto parts follow directions on can. good luck

Check your wires. Especially at the boots for cracks and tears. Look at the contact clip for corrosion. If one or more are questionable you can buy an individual spark plug wire kit at any Johnson dealer and replace one or more wires. It also helps to have some dielectric grease on the both ends of the wire to prevent corrosion and the spark from jumping down the outside of the insulator rather than jump the gap.
