I acquired a 60 HP Evinrude together with a Zodiac RIB & it has given me some problems.
First question what year is it: Type: VE60TLETD Serial # G 03240328.
When I got it, old gas plugged the carbs, so I took off all the carbs, soaked them & cleaned out gum depostits in the 3 carbs and cleaned out the 2 tanks, which are switched manually. Installed fuel filter / water seperator "downstream" from the tank switch. It ran fine on the muffs after that, but when I put it in the water it was gutless under load. Wouldn't even get on the plane. I traced those problems to an apparent pinch in plastic fuel intake manifold on one of the carbs. That fixed, it ran OK but compared to a Suzuki 65 I had before this, I never came close to its get-up-&-go. I suspect it has never run optimally for me.
The other day I took my first run of the season offshore here in BC. It had hesitated a couple of times when going WOT, but when eased in it came up to speed OK. I got into some huge ferry wake, jumped the wake & it bogged down immediately after that. Same old-same old: could iddle & start pushing the plane, but if you went to WOT, or even 3/4 it would bog down and stall. No way I could get back up the plane. Could be restarted but only idle / slow speed. Strong tell-tale, temperature was holding fine, revves up fine without load.
Any ideas?

Im here on the site for other problems but im no stranger to old fuel varnishing problems. Sounds like theres still something in the fuel system. I would suspect high speed jets. When you jumped the wave maybe some scale came loose or a float needle got stuck in the semi close position. I say that because it happened to me. I'd soak them a few days and blow them out with an air compressor and pay special attention to the jets and lines on the carbs after the filter. Good luck

My 60HP never run smooth until I cleaned the carbs out a few weeks ago. I finally got the boat out this weekend and it ran better than it ever has in the 2 years I have owned it. If you can get your hands on an ultrasonic cleaner, it would be well worth your time. If you do use it, make sure to remove anything nonmetallic as ultrasonic solution can deterioate it.

Good Luck
Karrick

Your motor is a 1993. Sounds to me you still have a fuel delivery problem. Have you verified the sync and linc after carb rebuild? Is throttle horizontal at WOT? Is timing fully advanced at WOT? Have you checked from the tanks to the carbs for air leaks? Has the fuel pump ever been redone/replaced?
Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!

This sure sounds like a fuel problem. Even though you cleaned the carbs and the tanks, there's still a good chance that something's blocked somewhere.

It does sound like the high-speed circuit, but the problem may well not be in the carbs themselves. It could be a fuel flow problem of some kind. I'd see if I could measure the fuel pump output as an initial step, then eliminate sticky needles seats in the carb(s) before going much further.

The worsened performance after you jumped the wake leads me to think it could be a needle & seat problem, but I'm just speculating.

pointsnorth welcome to iboats. Try squeezing your primer bulb and see if it picks up. At least that should help determine if it is a fuel problem. If you have a buddy and a timing light you might want to check the spark when it does this.
