Evinrude 4hp only run with choke closed

Hello all,<br />Have an older 4hp Evinrude Deluxe. It starts fine but will only continue to run if the choke is fully closed. I have changed the diaphram in the pump and have disassembled the carb (jet and needle seat are not clogged, float & valve work). Bulb and connectors do not leak. I can hear fuel running into carb when I pump bulb before starting, the buld stays hard after starting, it does not suck down. I did not buy a fuel pump assembly I put in the diaphram kit. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.<br />Thank Yyou

Welcome bob - Did you completely dissassemble the carb, soak overnight in carb cleaner, blow out all passages with high pressure compressed air and install a new carb kit? If not - - -

I did not soak or high pressure blow, but I could blow air through with my mouth. All parts looked very clean including jet, coulds see right through and also blew carb cleaner through, but just with can pressure.

There are tiny passages in there that you cannot see, Bob. Those are the ones that get plugged.<br /><br />Good luck.

If you can get your hands on an ultrasonic cleaner it works wonders.<br /><br />Good Luck
