I just purchased a 82 Lund with an 82 Johnson 115hp V4. It starts and idels great, but when you go to WOT is boggs down.

Checked the bulb and it went soft after going to WOT. After pumping it back up, engine would still not run at WOT. I am just begining to check things and thought I would check the gas line first. Tank had old gas but majority (maybe 1 gallon left out of 19 gallon) was drained out and fresh gas added.

Don't know if or where the gas line filter would be. Any trouble shooting ideas?

First get a copy of the OMC shop manual for your engine. It will more than pay for itself in your first repair. The symptoms you describe point to crud in the carbs and need for disassembly, soak in carb cleaner overnight, blow out all passaages with high pressure air and installing a rebuild kit.

Also I suggest that you get an in line fuel filter/water seperator. There is no seperate fuel filter on that motor other than a small screen in the fuelpump.

Solitte:

I have replaced the fuel line from tank to motor and installed a fuel filter/separator. The boat runs better 3200 3300 rpm was only getting 2500 rpm, but I beleive that it is rated for 5000 rpm. It takes awhile to plane but then runs well. I am not a mechanic, therefore how hard is it to clean the carbs? Please advise,

Thanks!

You will feel proud when you get finished and a sense of relief that it wasn't as difficult as you thought it would be. Go for it & follow the manual.
