Shift Problems with Evinrude 35 HP, 1983

Hello Everybody,<br /><br />I have a 35 HP Evinrue outboard from 1983!<br /><br />The shifting is very hard to do! <br />I have already changed the Gear Oil, and I lubricated the crankshaft!<br />But i still need lot's of Power to shift!<br /><br />Does anybody know the possible reason for this?<br />What can i do?<br /><br />Thanks for Your help and advice!!

Are you shifting from a remote control unit? If so, the cable may be binding. You can check by disconnecting the cable from the shifter on the engine and trying to shift manually. If shifting is easy shifting manually, then it's the cable. If not, lubricate the shifting mechanism on the outboard.<br /><br />You may be able to lubricate the cable, but you may have to replace it if that doesn't do the job.<br /><br />If this is a tiller model, then pop the cover off and check the shifting linkages and apply lubrication where needed. That may be all you need to do.

I do shift from a remote control unit, which is completely new! Also the cables are new!<br />It's definitely the outboard!<br /><br />If i remove the springs from the axle which prevents the throttle to get to full throttle if the shift is idle, then the shifting is easy!<br /><br />Will there be any problem if i run my engine without these two springs?
