77 Evinrude 115 HP help

I just purchased for a 100 dollars a 77 Evinrude 115 Model #115793b with no wiring or controls what I need to know is will the forward {assy control box} wiring harness work from a 74 Johnson 85 Hp? I have a Seloc manual but even with glasses I having a tough time seeing the wiring diagrams. I also saw that ther were 2 different lower end oil capacitys one for the 1977 115 ls and the 115 els what the differance.......thanks

Harness' should work although the 85hp harness probably don't have the TNT wired into it.<br /><br />The 115els....would think that means electric shift long shaft. Not to be concerned though...yours is a manual shift.

Tilt n' Trim, the power trim system, don't worry it won't explode <br /><br />If the controls on my motor are the original ones then the TNT wiring was not wired in, mine doesn't have the rocker switch mounted on the handle like some I've seen. I wish it was though. Mine also has a solenoid that the TNT is wired into instead of relays. <br /><br />I hope that motor turns out to be a runner, you got a hell of a deal on it!

Yep....what Mikey said. The Trim n' Tilts of those engines had a separate wiring harness with a swith on the dash. Just one solenoid for the "UP". Might find the harness/solenoid box at a local boat yard.

The difference in the gearcase capacity is that the 115 25" model in 1977 is the newer larger style and holds more. The 20" model is the old style smaller case. All V4 lowers were mechanical shift starting in 1973.<br /><br />Any wiring harness will work from 1973 to 1995 that has the red cannon plug.

Thanks for the answers the motor does not have trim so I have no worries about that, The motor is going to be put on the Wellcraft and started this weekend.......
